Something we would all like to have is more money. Right? So you can either work longer, or spend less. Below I will discuss various ways to spend less and strategies to save money.
Going to the grocery store:
Make a list: do not buy things you do not need. I also make it a point not to go when I am hungry. I always buy too much when I am hungry.
Buy the store brand: you can save 25% sometimes by not buying the name brand
Use Coupons: coupons are like money. No need to go all extreme and try to get a ton of stuff free but using a few coupons here and there can save you hundreds over the year.
Use the Reward Card: Kroger and most large grocery store chains have one that gives discounts on the food as well as "points" towards free gas.
Buy a filtered water bottle: Buying bottled water costs a lot of money. For a small investment of 10-12 dollars you can buy a filtered water bottle and save hundreds each year.
Get your coffee at Home: You can save over a thousand dollars a year by brewing coffee at home instead of buying it at a local store. See ourprevious post for more on this.
Save Money on Energy Use:
Programmable Thermostat: Buying one of these will allow you to turn down the heat or air when you are not at home, thereby saving money. You can use the free calculator at Energystar.gov for more help on this.
Sharing is Caring:
Share a ride on the way to work or use the bus: This can save thousands on the cost of gas and wear and tear on your vehicle.
Get a roommate: You can not only get a nicer place but save money or have someone help you pay off your mortgage!
